“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky , Michael Scott

I’m on Spring Break right now. Instead of booking a lavish vacation to the tropics, or visiting the beach 4 hours away, I decided to say home and have a staycation.
Reason One: I’m a broke teacher.
Reason Two: I have a ton of boxes to unpack at our new home.
Reason Three: Reflection & Rediscovery.
Before I continue… keep this question in mind… Have you ever made a mistake that turned out to be a great thing?
A few months ago, I visited a bookstore called 2nd & Charles. (I say bookstore, but they sell so much more! Comics, posters, t-shirts, video games, the list goes on and on) As I was leisurely browsing, I came across a title that read “YOU are a BADASS”. I stopped in my tracks and thought.. Me? Am I a Badass? Was this book meant for moi? So I picked it up, leafed through a few pages, put it back down and went on with my day. Over the next few months, however many times we visited this store, I constantly found myself eying this book, revisiting it, picking it up, glancing through the pages. Since this constantly happened, I considered just buying the book.
Surprise, surprise. I didn’t. I walked right out of the store, again, without the book. I went home it was still on my mind, and so FINALLY, I decided to buy it. I landed on the thought of an audiobook so that I could listen as I drive, so I purchased it online…Only to be instantly vexed the second after I completed my purchase. I bought the E-BOOK. Not the AUDIOBOOK that I had wanted! I couldn’t return it, so I began to read it on my iPad.
This mistake ended up being one of the greatest “errors” I could have made, because by reading a copy of the book on my iPad, I can take notes, highlight text, reflect, set goals, and put them into action. This book has opened my eyes to an entirely new realm of possibilities and I’m very excited to jump in and begin working on myself, from the inside out.
In a future post, I’ll share takeaways, discoveries, and “ah-ha” moments I’ve discovered through reading this book and putting its teachings into practice. Stay tuned…
