Personalized Learning

For the past five years, I've had the pleasure teaching in a school that embodies the philosophy of Personalized Learning. I was selected to be a member of the first group of Personalized Learning Change Agents for the district of CMS. Additionally, I was selected as a Personalized Learning Lead, and Coach at my school. My duties involve observing teachers and  providing coaching and feedback to guide teachers to transform their instruction to a more personalized, data driven, choice based approach. Personalized Learning in my Classroom

In order to create a personalized learning experience in my classroom, I have made the choice to eliminate all of the desks in my classroom and replace them with flexible seating options.

In order to ensure my students receive the best quality education, my students and I analyze their weekly assessment data, MAP and Interim data to make informed decisions when independently choosing which activities they complete and which standards I teach them each day.

I prefer to teach several data driven small groups each day as opposed to teaching one whole group lesson. By teaching small groups in a blended learning rotation model, I am able to teach each scholar on their individualized level. This model allows me to reach all of my learners and fill in any gaps in their previous educational experience.

Student Owned Data Tracker
My students use Google Drive to complete daily goal setting and reflection writings. They reflect on the activities and work they completed during the day, and reflect on if they met their goal or not. Finally, they set a new goal for the next day.

Pathways are a form of a choice board with activities for students complete which are aligned to the Common Core State Standards. I have created a pathway for each second grade math standard. Every student completes pathways that they have chosen based on their individual data. Incorporating the use of pathways ensures that students have every opportunity to learn and grow in the areas they need.
