Learning, Understanding and Conceptual Change

Education is ever growing and changing.  Learning used to consist of rote memorization of  the 3 R’s (Reading, wRiting, aRithmetics). This has become insufficient and proven ineffective for learners of the 21st century. In addition to keeping up with all the latest technology trends, today’s learners need to fully understand content and its relevance, have the ability to connect it across the curriculum and be able to solve problems using multiple strategies and modalities. With that said, being a school-aged kid isn’t what it used to be. In my short essay, Learning, Understanding and Conceptual Change I discuss the shift in education in addition to the differences in novice versus expert learners. This essay also includes research based methods on how to teach these learners effectively. Feel free to read the essay and comment below with any thoughts or questions that may arise.
